SharePoint is evolving and it’s never looked better. Over the last several months, there has been a flurry of new updates announced and shipped by the SharePoint team. Flexible Sections, Copilot Agents, AI Design Ideas, SharePoint Pages with Copilot, and AI-Powered FAQs are a few that come to mind.

With the launch of the all-new Page Template Gallery, Microsoft has taken a bold step toward making SharePoint not just more powerful, but also more beautiful, intuitive, and user-friendly. This update is a major win for content communicators, creators, intranet managers, and anyone invested in building a more engaging digital workplace.

What’s New?

The all new SharePoint Page Template Gallery

The new rollout introduces over 30 brand-new modern Page Templates, (with 20+ more coming soon) designed to inspire and empower page authors. These templates are managed centrally in a gallery and take advantage of out-of-the-box features. Whether you're creating a news post or a standard page, the experience is now more streamlined and visually rich.

Here’s what stands out:

  • Separate Templates for News Posts and Pages: When you create a new page or news post, you’ll now see different template options tailored to each use case.
  • Custom Templates Front and Center: Your site-specific templates are now prominently displayed at the top of the gallery—no more digging around to find them.
  • Flexible Layouts: Some templates use the new flexible section layout, allowing you to place text boxes and web parts almost anywhere. This opens up creative possibilities while also calling for thoughtful design governance.
  • Improved Readability: Many templates now use optimal text widths and layouts like the “One-third right” section, making content easier and more pleasant to read.
  • Horizontal Sections Galore: Several templates make excellent use of horizontal sections, helping break up content and guide the reader’s eye.

Why It Matters

This update isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about communication effectiveness. In the modern workplace, where hybrid and remote work are the norm, clear and engaging digital communication is essential. These new templates:

  • Save Time: Authors can start with a strong foundation instead of building from scratch.
  • Promote Consistency: Standardized layouts help maintain a cohesive look and feel across your intranet.
  • Encourage Creativity: The flexible section layout gives creators more freedom to experiment and innovate.
  • Enhance Engagement: Visually appealing pages are more likely to capture attention and drive interaction

Who's This For?

The new SharePoint Page Template Gallery is a powerful tool designed to support a wide range of users across the digital workplace. For authors and content creators, it offers a faster, more intuitive way to build pages. No more starting from scratch. With beautifully designed templates and flexible layouts, they can focus on crafting great content while ensuring it looks polished and professional.

Internal communicators, will appreciate how these templates help deliver clear, consistent messaging that’s visually engaging and easy to read. Meanwhile, marketers can use the templates to create on-brand internal campaign pages, product updates, or event promotions that align with their visual identity.

Where to Find Page Templates

You will be able to access these page templates from multiple entry points in SharePoint:

  • Site Home: The home of a Communication or Teams site.
  • App Bar: The persistent navigation pane on the left of SharePoint.
  • News Web Part: A webpart that displays and creates news posts directly on pages

When You'll Get It

The Modern SharePoint Page Templates has the Roadmap ID 490565. This feature will start rolling out to production in June and then be generally available to commercial customers worldwide early July 2025.

What Should You Do?

  1. Explore the New Templates: Even if you don’t use them directly, they’re a great source of inspiration.
  2. Revamp Your Custom Templates: Consider updating your existing templates for news articles and reference pages to align with the new design standards.
  3. Educate Your Team: Help your content creators understand how to use the new gallery effectively—and how to avoid common pitfalls like overly wide text boxes.

Final Thoughts

The new Page Template Gallery is more than just a design refresh. It’s a strategic tool for better communication in the digital workplace. By making it easier to create beautiful, functional pages, SharePoint is helping organizations foster stronger connections, clearer messaging, and a more vibrant intranet experience.
